Guillermo fought for – and won – the right to have his case heard before a “neutral adjudicator” while continuing his rehabilitative journey. Instead, Immigration Judge Steven M. Kirchner ordered Guillermo’s re-detention without bond and Guillermo was violently re-arrested on Valentine’s Day outside his home. This ruling violates due process and undermines the very community safety our justice and immigration systems claim to protect.
